They weren’t the results we were looking for at the weekend but your Sky Tower Auckland Huskies have the chance to bounce back with a Queens Birthday weekend road trip to take on the Steelformers Taranaki Airs and the Taylor Hawke’s Bay Hawks.
Due to a hamstring strain, the team will be without recent addition Justin Bibbs who will prioritise rest and rehab ahead of next week’s home game.
Last weekend we ended up being beaten by the table topping Wellington Saints despite being well in the contest at half-time.
On Saturday, in front of another good crowd at Eventfinda Stadium, Chris Johnson (22 points and 11 rebounds) had a winning shot rim out on the buzzer. An entertaining game ended with the Huskies falling 73-71.
Zach Riley added 2 steals, a block, 9 points and a game high 7 assists in a high octane performance.
Brooke Ruscoe scored 11 points and Chris McIntosh was also in double figures with 10.
Zach will fly home immediately after the game in Napier on Sunday to link up with his North Harbour teammates at U19 Nationals – go well Zach.
Thanks to Palmerston North based Kat Wills who travelled down to Wellington last weekend to help with team matters at the Saints game – love your work Kat.
In conjunction with David Ding & Harcourts Cooper & Co we continued our Huskies In-Schools programme this week with a visit to Manuka Primary School.
Our next home game is the latest edition of the Battle of the North against local rivals Franklin Bulls at Eventfinda Stadium on Saturday June 12, 7.30pm tip-off. It is going to be a big one, get your tickets while they are still available! – click here!
