What a round it was for the Sky Sport Auckland Huskies last weekend. We came away from the challenging Southern Swing with a pair of wins.

On Saturday we had a nail biting 93-92 overtime win in Invercargill against the Southland Sharks 93-92 in Invercargill.

Following a Sunday morning drive to Dunedin we were able to secure an emphatic 93-70 win over the Otago Nuggets.

The win in Invercargill was especially noteworthy given that the Sharks had won 8 games on the bounce and were unbeaten at home this season.

The game was tied at 83-all after regulation but 7 points from Justin Bibbs in the additional 5 minutes plus some good defensive play closed out a terrific win.

Justin finished with 27 points, Tom Vodanovich a game high 33 points while Chris Johnson and Dontae Russo-Nance scored 11 points each. We also welcomed Brook Ruscoe (9 points) back after injury.

It looked as if it would be another close game in Dunedin when we trailed 40-39 at half-time.

However we put a collective foot on the throat of the Nuggets after the break to outscore them 30-23 in the third quarter and an astonishing 24-7 in the fourth to win 93-70.

Tommie V scored 20 of his 24 points in the third quarter, Chris Johnson had 23 points and 11 rebounds while other notable contributors were Justin Bibbs (16 points) and Zach Riley (11 points).

The two wins put us equal 4th on the NBL ladder with the Nuggets who also have an 8-6 record.

All at the Huskies wish to congratulate Tommy V on being re-signed by the Sydney Kings for the 2021-22 Australian NBL season.

Tom was signed by the Kings as an injury replacement in January and quickly cemented his spot on the Kings bench unit.

This week we announced our Annual Golf Day to be held at Huapai Golf Course on September 2nd. Teams of 4 can enter as well as individuals with all proceeds going towards our community programme in-school’s in 2022. Full information here.
